FOURTEEN SPOTTED LADY BEETLES
Little did I know at the time that ladybugs are not always red.
|
Pretty
cool patterning, just a neat looking beetle.

MULTICOLORED LADY BEETLES
Ladybug and guy ladybug
|
Bigger
female again, caught this couple on film, check it out,
last thumbnail in this group.
|
This type of ladybug comes in different colored patterns and shades. I ID them by the carapace mostly.
|
Having an aphid appetizer
|
Ladybug head on
|
Another plainer version |
Same plainer one from the top
|
Pretty big eyes for a wee beetle
|
Lots of dots on this one
|
Another many dotted one
|
A plainer one, but the carapace looks lighter too, argh, back to the ID guides.
|
Not sure what its lunch used to be |
Interesting angle prior to take off
|
Aha, so this is what it looks like under the wings
|
Ladybug loving in action. Kind of funny actually, the male spins around here like it doesn't quite know which end is up.

NINE-SPOTTED LADY BEETLES
I don't think they can crane their necks, but this one has a long one
|
Preparing for take off, how does it fold such delicate wings under those hard covering ones?

RED LADY BEETLES
What a cutie, note the uniformly patterned carapace vs the more abstract multi-colored asian one.
|
At this angle, tough to tell, I think it's a red one.

SEVEN-SPOTTED LADY BEETLES
Picking its way along a Queen Anne's Lace plant
|
Note the mostly black carapace and big black dot on the top middle of its back.
|
Here you can see its mostly black body and bold white dots on neck and back. |
My first ladybug photos, and someone had the nerve to ask me how I photoshopped the sunburst on its back!!

TWICE STABBED LADY BEETLES
Coolest ladybug name, but it is dastardly as well. I felt a wee nip on my leg, saw this one, grabbed my macro and shot a few before I had to brush it off.

WESTERN LADY BEETLES
One of the more modest ladybugs looking serene

Sharing a rest stop with a longhorn beetle.

NYMPH LADY BEETLES
Are ladybug larvae crazy looking or what?
|
They are super speedy as well.
| This alien life form turns into those cute round bugs, unreal. |
Top shot of its ferocious looking form
|
This one was tearing around the leaves in an NYC community garden.
| Apparently ferocious feeders as well, feeding on their favorite food, aphids.
|
I am pretty sure this is a ladybug larvae transforming. Weird white tufts up top.
| Most definitely a ladybug morphing.
| Interesting two tones, looks like the lighter is the one being shed..? |
Nymph crawling too quickly to be a great clip, man these suckers move quickly.
