BUFFALO TREEHOPPER: Cedusa
Whoah. great shape, look at those horns!
From the side, so great blending in
THREE-CORNERED ALFALFA HOPPER: Spissistilus festinus
Wow, say that latin name 10 times!
One of my favorite head on shots, looks like a mini triceratops.
I wouldn't call those three corners, perhaps tri-rounded would make more sense.
THORN MIMIC TREEHOPPER: Campylenchia latipes
Another apt naming, was so excited to spot these alongside the Harriman train station stop in upstate NY.
Would be great camouflage except I know that plant doesn't sport thorns!
TREEHOPPER: Entylia
Saw these being tended by ants everywhere
This looks almost tender, watching over the spiny backed nymphs
Encouraged to emerge by nanny ant
How did this pale soft thing emerge from that spiny coffin??
Final check by nanny ant, its discarded nymph exoskeleton nearby
Hanging out waiting to harden and color. Didn't have time to stick
around and see what it ended up looking like but I am sure
it was cool.
